After unfollowing many outdoor industry influencers, I wrote the below post. I was frustrated with the exclusivity of this online space, rarely depicting POC, hawking sponsors’ overpriced gear, and inadvertently promoting more disparity in access to outdoor spaces. I hashtagged #rei1440project, a social media movement designed to foster attainable and pragmatic outdoor experiences. A representative from REI DM’ed me to ask if they could feature my post.

Featured on Congressman Mondaire Jones’ Instagram

In the summer 2020, Mondaire Jones, a lawyer running for NY-17's congressional seat, held a BLM rally in my hometown. After a break from photography due to COVID, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to take pictures and potentially meet the current favorite. I took this picture during his rousing speech and managed to show him the photo afterward. "Wow, I need that shot," he said. He gave me his personal email and featured the picture on his Instagram later that week.
